Love Sion public sculpture by Serge Gauya at Place de la Planta in Sion Switzerland

A Tribute to Sion

Installed in April 2024 on the iconic Place de la Planta in the heart of Sion, Switzerland, LOVE SION is a public sculpture created by Swiss multidisciplinary artist Serge Gauya.

Inspired by the legendary LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana, the artwork reinterprets the famous typographic composition through the name of Serge Gauya’s hometown: SION. By transforming the city’s name into a contemporary sculptural landmark, the artist pays tribute to the place where his artistic journey began.

The sculpture combines strong visual impact with a universal message of connection, identity, and affection for one’s roots. Its vibrant red color symbolizes passion, energy, and human warmth, while the integrated heart evokes love, community, and belonging.

Public Art & Identity

Located in one of the city’s most popular public spaces, LOVE SION has become a recognizable landmark and a symbolic meeting point for residents and visitors. The artwork invites interaction, photography, and shared experiences, reinforcing the role of public art as a bridge between people and place.

Through LOVE SION, Serge Gauya celebrates not only his hometown but also the universal values of pride, connection, and cultural identity.

“LOVE SION is a tribute to my roots, my city, and the people who helped shape my journey as an artist.”
